Workload views across project tools—Asana/monday.com/ClickUp
Compare Asana, monday.com and ClickUp workload views by project scope, effort units, capacity settings, missing work and plan limits.
Asana consolidates assignments through a Portfolio; monday.com draws workload from boards; ClickUp aggregates work across a Space or Workspace. The useful differences are what each roll-up counts, how effort is expressed, which capacity signals it exposes, and where assignments can disappear.
Ask the same questions of each view
Asana shows each team member’s work across every project in the selected Portfolio (Asana tips: Everything you need to know about Workload). monday.com can show a single board or a dashboard pulling from multiple boards (The Workload Widget; Managing Team Workload with monday.com Workload View). ClickUp aggregates task volume and time estimates across projects in a Space or Workspace (Workload and Capacity Views in Ops Software).
For effort, Asana uses a custom field in hours or points; monday.com can use estimates such as hours or points from a Numbers column; ClickUp offers task count, time estimates, points or a custom field. Asana and monday.com both support hour or point estimates, while ClickUp also lets planners display task count (Asana tips; Managing Team Workload with monday.com Workload View; ClickUp Workload View: Accurate Capacity Planning).
Asana lets planners set a maximum capacity for each team member and marks an overage with a red line. monday.com frames capacity per person and shows an overbooked workload in red (Asana tips; Workload and Capacity Views in Ops Software; Managing Team Workload with monday.com Workload View).
Asana recommends start and end dates to represent effort accurately, but subtasks do not appear in Workload. monday.com uses Timeline or due dates to schedule items on the display. A ClickUp-focused guide says subtasks need to be enabled in Customize to appear (Asana tips; Managing Team Workload with monday.com Workload View; ClickUp Workload View: Accurate Capacity Planning).

Three documented approaches
Asana Workload is available to Business and Enterprise customers. If significant work sits only in subtasks, the displayed load will omit it; Asana recommends capturing team assignments in a central project, and suggests a Rule to add tasks there. Keep workload-bearing assignments visible as tasks in the Portfolio (Asana tips).
monday.com Workload is unavailable on Free, Basic and Standard plans; it is available on Pro and Enterprise. Enterprise adds time-off tracking and multi-board workload management, so plan eligibility and board coverage can constrain the view (Cross-board Workload Visibility in monday.com).
ClickUp’s Workload view supports filtering by team, time period or project and dragging tasks between people; its display can switch between weekly and two-week views. Enable subtasks when that work needs to appear (Workload and Capacity Views in Ops Software; ClickUp Workload View: Accurate Capacity Planning).
Decide from the display and its gaps
Asana suits planning across projects grouped in a Portfolio when the planner needs hours or points against a per-person maximum. It depends on workload-bearing work being visible as tasks, and access is limited to Business and Enterprise.
monday.com suits plans organised around boards where a single-board view or multi-board dashboard matches the work being tracked. Free, Basic and Standard plans exclude the feature; Enterprise is required for the stated time-off and multi-board workload management capabilities.
ClickUp suits teams needing work rolled up across a Space or Workspace, with filters by project, team or time period and selectable workload measures. Enable subtasks if they carry assignments that should count, and use the drag-and-drop controls to rebalance tasks between people.
